Double winner in the shot put and hammer throw

MANSFIELD, Conn. – The Warriors competed at the Bonnie Edmondson Classic on Friday, a meet that ended with a victory on both the men's and women's sides. This meet also served as senior day for those graduating this spring. Eastern had an opportunity to race on their home track before hosting the Little East Conference Championships next Saturday.
As winners of the competition, the Warriors took home several top three finishes on the day. Beginning with the men's 200-meter dash,
James Saint-Jean (Bridgeport) finished in third place, less than a tenth of a second off the lead, with a time of 22.64. Saint-Jean took the win in the men's 400m, running 49.78 as the event's only sub-50 finisher. In the men's 800m,
Zachary D'Andrea (Wallingford) finished in second place behind an LEC opponent, running 1:56.27.
The Warriors swept the podium in the men's 1500m, led by
Sam Ambrocio (Beacon Falls) in 4:05.06 and followed by
Luke Dalton (Naugatuck) (4:13.22) and
Hayden Baber (Gales Ferry (4:13.83).
Jake Thompson (Portland) worked with Warrior alum Mike Parzych in the men's 5k, winning the event in a time of 16:01.24.
Hagen Drake (Stonington) won the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 15.06.
Dustin Sannasi (Waterbury) cleared 1.85m (6'0.75) in the men's high jump for third, while
Lucian Parker-Jennings (Athens, VT) cleared 3.85m (12'7.5) to win the pole vault competition.
Tristan Nye (Willimantic) scored eight points in the men's triple jump with a third-place finish, jumping 12.83m (42'1.25). In the men's discus throw,
Mike Prizio (Trumbull) threw 42.54m (139'7) for second place.
Moving on to the women's results, Eastern athletes finished first and third in the 100m, as
Naziah Johnson (Norwalk) won the event in 12.39 and
Givanni Perry (Hartford) finished third in 12.72.
Ella Caplet (Bozrah) was the runner-up in the 400m dash in a time of 1:00.03.
Keira Warner (Ellington) won the women's 5k in a time of 19:41.77. The women's 100m hurdles was won by
Izzy Northrop (Uncasville) (15.91), while her teammate
Maya Korczak (East Hampton) finished third in 16.25. Northrop also competed in the high jump, finishing third after clearing 1.46m (4'9.5), while
Angelina Taccogna (Stratford) was second, clearing the same height.
Laci Davis (Prospect) finished second in the long jump with her mark of 5.30m (17'4.75), also finishing second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.37m (37'3.75).
Casondra Caldwell (Bridgeport) won the event, jumping 11.47m (37'7.75). Her mark breaks the school record set in 2015 by Savonnah Artis (11.42m/37'5.75). In the women's shot put,
Anaka Eaton (Coventry) threw 12.35m (40'6.25) for the win. She also won the hammer throw, with a mark of 49.73m (163'2). In the final event on the track, the alumni mile saw its largest field to date. Rey Torres won the race, reportedly running 4:42 to comfortably win.
Eastern will host the Little East Conference Championships on Saturday, April 25, starting at 9:40 a.m. The Warriors will host the meet for the first time in multiple years, with UMass Dartmouth nominated as consistent hosts in recent years.
