Cattanach Places in Top 28 Percent at Nationals

MASON, Ohio – Junior Lee Cattanach (New London) of Eastern Connecticut State University placed 78th overall in a field of 280 finishers at the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at the Golf Center at Kings Island.

As the first Eastern male to qualify for the national meet in 38 years, Cattanach produced a time of 25:08.2 over the 8,000 meter course, finishing among the top 28 percent of the finishers. Senior Grant Wintheisser of St. Olaf was the individual winner in a time of 23:44.9 , six seconds faster than senior Colin Cotton of Williams College.

North Central College, last year's second-place team, claimed its second title in four years, totaling 130 points, 13 less than 2013 champion St. Olaf College.

The New England Alliance champion who placed 20th in last Saturday's New England Regional, Cattanach was the 19th runner from New England to cross the finish line. Cattanch was timed in 25:57 over 8,000 meters at last Saturday's regional and Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, MA.
