MANSFIELD – Junior Lee Cattanach (New London) and freshman Natalie Bowens (Montville) broke program records for Eastern Connecticut State University at its eighth annual outdoor track & field invitational Friday afternoon.

Cattanach, who already owns four indoor records at distances from 800 and 5000 meters, broke the outdoor record in the 3000 with a winning time of 9:13.05, while Bowens set an outdoor record with a mark of 36-4 in placing second in the triple jump. The old 3000 record was set by Nick Miller two years ago and the previous triple jump mark was set by Cora Gingras at this meet in 2012.
In the seven-team meet, the Eastern women placed second with 172 points and the men third with 155 points. Bridgewater State University claimed the men's and women's titles with 225 and 176 points, respectively.
Additional individual winners for the women were senior Akaya McElveen (New Haven) in the 400 (59.91), junior Kelly Labanara (Chaplin) in the 5000 (19:27.43), and senior Amy Huhn (Hebron), the only entrant in the pole vault (9-6 ¼). Men capturing firsts were senior Fredrick Hewett (New London) in the 400 (49.32), and first-year senior Ben Abrahams (Glastonbury) in the pole vault (12-4 ¾). The men's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays also took firsts in times of 43.17 and 3:24.33, respectively. The 4x100 was comprised of junior Luisantonio Rosado (Ponce, PR), Hewett, junior Dylan Kruppa (Torrington) and junior Christopher Brown (Hartford), and the winning 4x400 of freshman Jesse Petrini (Portland), junior Andrew Reynolds (Hartford), Kruppa and Hewett.
