Second-time weekly honoree after being named Rookie-of-the-Week in the seventh report (Oct. 14) of 2024. Sophomore forward scored his first two goals of the season – including the game-winner – in a 3-2 home win Saturday over Keene State College in the Little East Conference opener for both teams that gave the Owls their first loss after four opening wins. Melgar gave Eastern a 2-0 lead with his first goal of the year two minutes into the second half, and after having his second goal negated due to an offside call midway through the half, gave Eastern another two-goal lead with his second goal of the game and season with 16 minutes left. That goal was declared to be the game-winning one after the Owls scored their second goal of the match with 11+ minutes left.Melgar was credited with four of Eastern's eight shots that reached goal. Eastern (3-2-0, 1-0-0 LEC) hosts VTSU Castleton Saturday in a conference match at 1 p.m. at Rick McCarthy Field.
