Softball: Warriors Close Home Schedule With Pair Against Golden Bears

Team Records:
Eastern Connecticut: 20-14
Western New England: 17-18

Series History:
  •  Beginning in 1979, Eastern won the first 11 games between the teams before the Golden Bears responded by winning four of the last six.
  • Since Eastern swept a 2017 road doubleheader, the teams have split doubleheaders in 2018 and 2025. Last year at Golden Bear Park, the Warriors responded from a 7-1 first-game loss to take the nightcap, 2-1. In the second game, Alexa Boone pitched into the seventh and Elizabeth Mitchell came on to get the final out by leaving the bases loaded for her third save. In the first game, Shelby Blanchard tossed a three-hitter with eight strikeouts, Alyssa Ferriouolo drove in four runs – three on a home run – and Angelees Carrasquillo had three hits and scored two runs for the Golden Bears.
  • Eastern is 7-1 at home against WNE, the loss coming in the second game of a 2018 doubleheader, 2-0, when Aimee Kistner tossed a two-hit shutout.
Recent Games:
  •  Eastern has split its last three doubleheaders and five of its last six, sweeping defending Little East Conference tournament champion UMass Boston, 3-1, 4-1 on the road in that stretch.
  • The Warriors are coming off yesterday's split at UMass Dartmouth, losing the opener, 8-4, and riding Jordan Bennett's complete-game 2-0 shutout in the nightcap. It was Bennett's fourth win without a loss this year.
  • Western New England is 2-5 in its last seven games (all in Conference of New England play) and 3-8 in its last 11 since winning seven straight and is coming off Sunday's 5-2, 6-3 home losses to Johnson & Wales University.
  • WNE's last shutout (6-0) was authored by freshman Kaylin Heffern, who tossed a four-hitter with seven strikeouts in the second game of a CNE doubleheader.
Game Notes:
  •  The Warriors close out their home season today, visiting Massachusetts Maritime Academy in a Saturday makeup doubleheader at noon. Eastern competes in the Little East Conference double-elimination tournament May 6-9 at either VTSU Castleton or UMass Dartmouth. WNE closes out the regular season Saturday at noon with a CNE doubleheader against Suffolk University at Griswold Park in Revere, MA.
  • Eastern is 8-4 at home this year and WNE is 9-13 away from its home park.
  • Eastern's Mitchell is 12-6 with four saves and a 1.91 ERA in 121 innings but has lost her last three decisions. She has fanned 107 batters and walked only 35. Bennett has won all four of her decisions in the last 11 days. In five games (four starts), Bennett is 4-0 with a 1.12 ERA in 25 innings, with opponents batting .216.
  • Four Eastern regulars are batting over .300: Julia Boya (.356), Maddy Bowen (.350), Elizabeth Mitchell (.349) and Kaley Laird (.330). Seven players have driven in at least 11 runs, led by Bowen, Grace Jenkins and Sam Healy, who have 17 each. Mitchell and Healy share the team lead with 11 extra-base hits.
  • Riley Kane has appeared in 21 of WNE's 25 games on the mound with an 8-9 record and 2.71 ERA with 72 strikeouts in 118 2/3 innings. She has thrown 15 complete games and two shutouts in 17 starts.
