Baseball: Six From Eastern Earn Little East Conference Recognition

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Six Warriors received Little East Conference Honors on Wednesday for their accomplishments during Eastern's 2026 baseball season. Hank Penders (Wethersfield) and AJ Rooks (Coventry) were named First Team All-Little East Conference, while Ian Moser (Bellingham, MA) and Stephen Rickert (Williston, VT) were named to the Second Team, and Lucas Malave (Toms River, NJ) and Rob Moynihan (Ledyard) were named to the Third Team. The Warriors were 25-15-1 (11-5 LEC) in 2026, qualifying for the Little East Conference Playoffs as a #4 seed, but lost the first two games of the double-elimination tournament.
 
First Team All-LEC
Hank Penders, Sr., Wethersfield (East Catholic)
Penders is named First Team All-LEC as a catcher for his third consecutive First Team appearance. A starter of 40 games, Penders had a .361 average with 57 hits, 39 RBIs, 35 runs, and six home runs. He led the team in triples with four and his 289 put outs were also the most on the team. In the second game of the doubleheader against the University of Southern Maine on May 1, Penders went 2-3 with four RBIs, a run, and a double.
AJ Rooks, Sr., Coventry (Coventry)
Rooks is named First Team All-LEC as a relief pitcher for his first All-LEC appearance in his final season. He made 13 appearances and possessed a record of 1-0 with a 3.25 ERA. In 27.2 innings, Rooks allowed 20 hits, walking 13 batters and striking out 30. In the first game of the doubleheader against the University of Southern Maine on May 1, Rooks pitched 4.0 hitless innings, allowing one walk and striking out seven in a 10-3 win for the Warriors.
 
Second Team All-LEC
Ian Moser, Jr., Bellingham, MA (Bishop Feehan)
Moser is named to his second All-LEC team as a first baseman, having been named First Team All-LEC last year. His .380 batting average led the team, also leading the Warriors with 59 RBIs, a .704 slugging percentage, 13 doubles, 11 home runs, and 100 total bases. Moser was the only player to appear in all 41 games this season and was named a starter in all. Against Johnson & Wales and Western Connecticut on April 12 and April 14, Moser went 7-11 across the two games, with four home runs, 11 RBIs, and six runs.
Stephen Rickert, So., Williston, VT (Champlain Valley Union)
Rickert is named Second Team All-LEC as a pitcher for his first All-LEC appearance. A starter of 11 games and making 12 appearances, Rickert had a 6-3 record with the most wins on the team. He also led the Warriors with 56.1 innings pitched and 59 strikeouts, allowing just 17 walks on the season. In the March 22 game against VTSU Castleton, Rickert pitched six innings, allowing three hits, one walk, and striking out seven batters in a 6-0 win.
Third Team All-LEC
Lucas Malave, Sr., Toms River, NJ (Toms River North)
Malave is named Third Team All-LEC as an outfielder for his first All-LEC appearance in his final season. A starter of 36 games, Malave averaged .268 with 37 hits, 30 RBIs, 27 runs, and four home runs. He had 21 put outs and made just one error this season, finishing with a .955 fielding percentage. In the April 12 game against Johnson & Wales University, he went 3-4 with a home run, 2 RBIs, and three runs.
Rob Moynihan, Sr., Ledyard (Ledyard)
Moynihan is named Third Team All-LEC as a pitcher for his first All-LEC appearance in his final season. He made eight appearances and started five games, possessing a record of 3-1 and an ERA of 3.24. In 33.1 innings, Moynihan allowed 29 hits, nine walks, and struck out 28 batters. In the March 25 game against Castleton, he allowed four hits, no runs, one walk, and struck out eight batters in his six innings of work as the Warriors won 9-4.
