Anne M. (Costello) Adams was a two-time softball All-America and was the winning pitcher when the program clinched the first of its four NCAA Division III national titles in 1982. A left-handed pitcher and first basemen, Costello was a key player on national championship teams in 1981 (AIAW) and ’82. In 1982, she tossed a complete-game four-hitter as the Warriors blanked host Trenton State 2-0 in the first NCAA title game. Named the first first-team NCAA All-America in the program’s history in 1983, the Uncasville native compiled a .298 lifetime average in 122 games, a 21-11 pitching mark and 1.75 ERA in 37 games and a .982 fielding average. Nine years after the conclusion of her collegiate career, Costello still holds New England Division III career records for fielding chances and putouts. Costello won or shared the team’s Gold Glove Award for fielding supremacy in her first three seasons and was the winning pitcher when the program won its first post-season game in 1980.
