Lisa A. Matukaitis is one of only two All-America selections in the 57-year history of the Eastern men’s and women’s intercollegiate soccer programs. In soccer, the Southington native scored 72 goals and added 22 assists for 166 points in 69 career matches, graduating as the most prolific female scorer in New England Division III history. As a senior in 1992, the 5-foot-2 inch forward broke her own program season records with 23 goals and 56 points en route to first-team All-New England Region and third-team Division III All-America honors. At graduation, she was the only player in the 16-year history of the women’s program to earn All-America distinction. As a freshman, Matukaitis scored a program-record 22 goals to vault the soccer team into post-season play in only its third season on the intercollegiate level. In mid-October of the next year, Matukaitis scored the only goal of the match as the visiting Warriors ended the 21-game regular season winning streak of No.-3 nationally-ranked Plymouth State. That landmark win was the overriding factor as the Warriors qualified for their first NCAA tournament. Matukaitis, who red-shirted both sports in 1990-91 with torn ligaments in her right knee, helped all eight of her soccer and basketball teams to post-season tournaments. Those teams won 124 games, lost 57, and tied two for .683 winning percentage. In basketball, Matukaitis graduated first all-time in steals (276) and third in assists (375). As a freshman in 1988-89, she was named Little East Conference Rookie-of-the-Year after leading the team in assists (137) and steals (99).
