No player in the program has ever hit a baseball with more authority and few have enjoyed a more productive single season than Mark D. Riemer. A starter on four straight teams which won 30 games and qualified for the program’s first four NCAA Division III tournaments, Riemer became the first position player from a New England Division III institution to earn first-team NCAA All-America accolades. As a junior rightfielder in 1978, the New Britain native batted .403 with an .803 slugging percentage and led Division III in hits (73), RBI (59) and total bases (146), was second with 14 home runs, tied for second in doubles (19) and tied for sixth in triples (6). Today, Riemer’s 1978 total of 146 total bases remains a New England Division III record. In addition, he maintains the program career record for triples (18), is second in career total bases (366) and home runs (34), third in RBI (152) and fourth in slugging (.637). A member of head coach Bill Holowaty’s Silver Anniversary Team in 1993, Riemer was signed to a free-agent contract by the Pittsburgh Pirates following his senior season.
