Maureen C. Deegan is the most accomplished and decorated multi-sport female athlete in 43 years of modern-day Eastern women’s athletics. Deegan becomes the first Hall of Fame selection from the field hockey program and second inductee from the women’s lacrosse program. Deegan earned national, regional, conference and institutional recognition, setting career standards for scoring in both lacrosse and field hockey which have not yet been approached. In her career, the Westport native set current career records for goals, assists and points in field hockey and lacrosse, earning an array of individual honors which included national recognition, and All-New England Region and All-Little East Conference honors in both sports. She was a four-time all-conference selection in both sports, three times gaining first-team honors in each.As a senior captain in lacrosse, Deegan was named to the Inside Lacrosse Division III All-America second team, as a participant in the prestigious IWLCA Farewell Lacrosse Festival, and first-team All-ECAC, All-New England Region and All-LEC. She led Division III in points (116) and tied for second in assists (47) that year. As a second-year senior captain in field hockey, Deegan was selected to the NFHCA North-South Senior All-Star Game (the program’s only such selection to date) in Baltimore, and repeated as a second-team selection to the All-New England West Region team and first-team All-LEC pick.In lacrosse, Deegan still holds career records for goals (243), assists (136), points (379), shots (526) and free-position goals (76), is second in draw controls (189) and fourth in ground balls (197). In field hockey, Deegan’s career marks for games (75), starts (74), goals (29), assists (21), points (79), game-winning goals (8) and shots (214) have remained the program standard for the last nine years.
