Thomas Nevers brought national recognition to the men’s soccer program, his teams winning 152 matches, losing 76, and tying 14 between 1961 and 1978. Over that span, the Watertown native directed Eastern to three New England and one ECAC title and at least a share of four New England State College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championships. Hired as the first official soccer coach in program history, Nevers led the Warriors to 14 straight winning seasons beginning in 1965, the club qualified for ten straight post-season tournaments between 1966 and 1975. In 1968 and 1969, the team posted back-to-back unbeaten regular seasons, capturing New England titles and moving on to national tournament play. Nevers also coached golf between 1962 and 1982 and basketball between 1962 and 1965.
