Louis G. Chartier totaled well over 1,000 points and more than 1,000 rebounds in a celebrated four-year career which included UPI small college All-New England second-team honors as a junior and recognition as an Outstanding College Athlete of America as a senior. A native of Danielson, the 6-foot-5 inch forward averaged 15.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in a 94-game career. In all, Chartier totaled 1,453 points – a program record which stood for 21 years – and 1,036 rebounds. Behind the play of its two-time team MVP and 1972-73 co-captain, Eastern enjoyed the winningest four years of basketball to that point in program history. From 1969 through 1973, the Warriors won 69 of 98 games for a winning percentage of .704 and captured three New England State College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Southern Division regular-season titles. In 1971-72, Eastern won its first NESCAC tournament crown in 13 years and gained the program’s first NAIA tournament berth.
