John F. Fitzgerald is the all-time leading scorer in the history of the men’s soccer program, holding program records for goals, assists and points in a match, season and career. The Mansfield native thrust a fledgling soccer program into the national spotlight by leading the Warriors to consecutive unbeaten regular seasons, New England championships and berths in NAIA national championship tournaments in 1968 and 1969. In a brilliant four-year soccer career, Fitzgerald totaled 219 points with 79 goals and 61 assists.  As a senior captain in 1969, Fitzgerald gained All-New England honors as the Warriors posted their only unbeaten, untied regular season (11-0-0) to that point and a program-record 16 triumphs against two losses. Fitzgerald was also a team captain and All-New England catcher in baseball, amassing a .300-plus career batting average.
