 One of the finest two-sport athletes in school history, Gary P. Kinel excelled as a four-year starter in both basketball and baseball. In basketball, the 6-foot-1 inch Manchester native scored 1,254 career points and led the team to three New England State College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) regular-season division titles, one NESCAC post-season tournament championship and a berth in the 1971-72 NAIA tournament. As a pitcher/infielder, Kinel is the only player to date to have won both 20 games (21-3) on the mound and collect 100 hits (115). A three-time NAIA District 32 all-star, Kinel was also named team Most Valuable Player, Best Pitcher and Best Hitter each of his first three years and finished with a .363 career average.
