Anthony P. Romano achieved more in less time than any athlete in program history. At 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, the Enfield native gained numerous honors as only a two-year basketball player. As a team captain in his second year (1962-63), Romano was crowned the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national rebounding champion (23.1 rpg.), was named to the Little All-America and All-New England teams by the Associated Press, and finished 20th nationally and second in the state with a 24.5 scoring average. A starter on Hall of Fame coach Francis E. Geissler’s final team in 1961-62, Romano tallied a school-record 589 points and led the state with a 24.5 scoring mark as the Warriors posted their winningest season (18-7) to that point. In his 42-game career, Romano totaled 1,030 points and was a two-time conference all-star.
