Susan A. Murphy was a four-year fixture at second base and the softball program’s first player to collect 100 career hits. The Orange native was a key player on the program’s first post-season tournament team as a freshman in 1980 and was a starter when Eastern won its first two national titles in 1981 and 1982. At the time of graduation, the two-time team batting champion was the program’s all-time leader in mostly every career category, among them hits, runs, batting average, assists and games. As a senior captain in 1983, Murphy was named All-New England, team MVP and recipient of the Coaches’ Award. In her career, Murphy batted .326 with 125 hits, 71 RBI, 63 runs, 46 walks and 33 stolen bases. At the time of induction, Murphy’s hit total ranks her tenth all-time.
