Andrew J. “Archie” Drobiak becomes the first basketball-baseball letterwinner to gain induction from the era of the 1980s. The Jewett City native lettered four years in each sport while also excelling in the classroom as a two-time E-Club Scholar-Athlete Award recipient. In basketball, the 6-foot-4 inch, 200 pounder appeared in all but one of 99 games, averaging 9.9 points and 6.3 rebounds. Drobiak was a major contributor when the Warriors put together their winningest back-to-back seasons in nine years between 1980 and ’82, capturing 31 of 51 games and qualifying for their first-ever ECAC Division III New England Tournament in 1980-’81. As a senior, Drobiak finished either first or second in 13 individual statistical categories, including first in rebounding (7.0) for the third straight season and second in scoring (11.9). In baseball, Drobiak became the first player under Hall of Fame coach Bill Holowaty to start four seasons at first base, batting .294 in a 162-game career and setting New England Division III career records for putouts (1,136), chances (1,215), and doubles (46) and a season mark with 259 errorless chances in 1981. As a junior in 1982, Drobiak sparked the Warriors to their first NCAA Division III national title by batting .333 with seven RBI and a national tournament record five doubles in five games en route to all-tournament honors.
