Iris N. Molina was one of the first female athletes to merit four letters in two sports. As a senior, the Bridgeport native played on the first volleyball team to qualify for post-season play and win as many as 30 matches; as a junior and senior, she was a pitcher on the first two softball teams to compete in post-season play. In her final game in an Eastern uniform, the softball Warriors won the University’s first national championship. As the only senior on a 1980 volleyball team which included 11 freshmen, Molina was a key player on a club which gained the first of 12 straight post-season tournament invitations. Molina served as a team co-captain that year, was named to the Salem State College Invitational all-tournament team and was honored as the program’s Most Valuable Player. As a freshman softball player in 1978, Molina led the Warriors in pitching appearances, relief appearances and innings in winning a team-high six games in eight decisions. The final five wins came in succession following a 1-2 start.
