Gregory J. Andrulis was a four-year regular in net who went on to distinguish himself and the University in a successful collegiate and professional coaching career. As a college player, Andrulis led the Warriors to an overall 63.8 winning percentage (35-19-4) and one ECAC Tournament berth. In both his first and last seasons, Andrulis started all 14 matches. The starting keeper as a freshman, the 6-foot-1 inch, 190-poinder led the Warriors to a 10-4 record. Nine times that year, he shut out the opponent; three other times, he gave up only goal. As sophomore, Andrulis helped backstop the team to its 11th post-season tournament in 12 years, and as a senior captain, he was named MVP. After coaching 12 seasons and compiling a 134-72-28 record as the all-time winningest coach at Division I Wright State University between1985-1996, the Litchfield native joined the professional ranks as the goalkeeper coach with the Columbus Crew of upstart Major League Soccer. In 2001, he was named the club’s interim coach. As the permanent coach in 2002, he led the Crew to the U.S. Open Cup. Two years later, in 2004, he directed the franchise to a first-place finish in the Eastern Division and to the most points in either conference. The Crew ended the regular season with an 18-game unbeaten streak – the longest in MLS history. At season’s end, Andrulis was selected the league’s Coach of the Year. In the summer of 2005, after ten ears with the Crew – five as head coach – Andrulis was named head coach at Division I George Mason University.
