Dr. Joseph J. Narotsky has dedicated 40 years of his life to the University: three as a student-athlete, two as an assistant coach and the last 35 years of his professional career as a respected member of the faculty. The Columbia resident was a three-year regular in basketball and a three-year starter at third base in baseball under Hall of Fame coach Francis E. Geissler. Following graduation, Narotsky assisted Geissler in the basketball program for two years while teaching elementary school in Glastonbury. Narotsky, hired as a supervising teacher at Willimantic State’s Laboratory School in 1957, served in a number of capacities after being appointed to the faculty the following year. In 1972, he was appointed chairman of the elementary education department. This past June, Narotsky ended his distinguished tenure on the faculty but remains as an adjunct professor in the education department. Narotsky was a founding member of the Hall of Fame, serving as its chairman in 1986 and ’87.
