More than any other player, Laurie A. Alexander is responsible for the early development and success of the women’s intercollegiate volleyball program. A native of Harwinton, Alexander joined the team in its second year (1976) on the intercollegiate level and helped the Warriors improve a first year 6-13 record to 17-6. A four-year starter, the 5-foot-8 inch Alexander is the only four-time team MVP and captain to date and was one of the program’s first two four-year letterwinners. Powerful hitting and superior vertical leap allowed Alexander to dominate opponents. With Alexander in the lineup, Eastern qualified for three straight Connecticut state tournaments – reaching the tournament final in 1979.
