Paul “Buzz” Kaminski starred in basketball and baseball in the formative years of both programs. A 6-foot-1 inch center, Kaminski was a four-year starter for the “Educators” on the basketball court. In his collegiate debut Dec. 4, 1947, Kaminski scored a game-high 26 points in a 59-51 victory and later that season tied for game high scoring honors he with 24 points despite being matched up against 6-foot-3 inch George Kaftan in the team’s 104-43 loss to defending national champion Holy Cross at the state armory. The Willimantic native averaged double figures in scoring each season, averaging 17.7 points as a senior captain in 1950-51. In baseball, Kaminski lettered on the school’s first formal team in 1949 and was credited with the program’s first win, tossing a complete-game five-hitter in a 9-4 triumph May 18 over the Danbury Teachers.
