Stacey L. Kavanaugh-Schofield was a four-year starter in goal in women’s soccer and at third base in softball.
In soccer, the Woodstock native started all 70 matches in which she appeared, earning All-Little East Conference honors three times and All-New England recognition as a junior when she led the Warriors to a 15-4-0 record and second of three straight post-season tournaments. As a senior, she backstopped the team to its first NCAA berth in 14 years and to its first Little East regular-season and playoff championships.
Thirteen seasons following graduation, Schofield’s 48 wins in goal still rate first all-time – 17 more than her nearest competitor. She also remains the program’s all-time goalie leader in starts, shutouts (20), saves (327) and minutes (5,933) and among the top three in appearances, goals-against average (0.83), and save percentage (.856).
Schofield returned from an injury in 2001 and started the remaining 57 matches of her soccer career. In 2002, she backstopped the Warriors to 15 wins (the second-most in the program’s 31-year history), a semifinal berth in the ECAC Division III New England Tournament, and set current season goalkeeper records for goals-against average (0.50), wins (15), and full shutouts (7).
In softball, Schofield started 122 games with a .285 career average and amassed 96 career hits and 281 assists – the assist total ranking second all-time at the time of her graduation -- despite missing 22 games as a junior. She spent the majority of her career batting in the heart of the order. Starting all but one game in three of her four seasons, Schofield had 97 assists and was 9-for10 in stolen bases when Eastern qualified for the ECAC tournament in her senior season.
Schofield was a member of the honors program and an E-Club Scholar-Athlete Award recipient in both years of eligibility
Having worked for ten years at Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Centers in Guilford and serving as athletic trainer at North Branford High School, Schofield is currently pursuing a B.S. Degree in Nursing (BSN-RN). Schofield is married to Megan Kavanaugh and has a year-old son and resides in Wallingford.
