Bonnie J. Edmondson was a two-time collegiate All-America in the discus event who went on distinguish herself professionally as one of the nation’s premier 20 pound weight and hammer throwers. Beyond winning major regional titles in four events as a collegian, the Coventry native gained All-America honors in the discus with finishes of second and fourth at the NCAA Division III championships in 1985 and 1987, respectively. Shortly after graduation, she won back-to-back USATF national titles in the hammer throw (1990 and 1991). In 1992, Edmondson placed third at the Olympic trials in the hammer, and two years later, placed third at the Pan Am trials with a personal-best throw of 182 feet, 11 inches, missing by one place a spot on the U.S. team. As a junior at Eastern, Edmondson won New England (all divisions) titles in the 20 pound weight during indoor competition and the hammer throw outdoors while also taking the ECAC Division III title in the discus. A truly unique athlete, Edmondson also averaged 9.2 points and 7.3 rebounds in a 31 game Eastern basketball career.
